We walk Miss K every night as a form of canine-enforced workout.
On one of our such walks, we noticed a palm tree cruelly halved: its top half was lying dramatically, and quite fully intact, by the roadside; its lower half proudly erect, albeit dead, in the middle of the grass.
The next day, the top half of the palm tree was carted away by some mysterious force.
The day after that, the bottom half was dug up and removed, with fresh soil patted over the offending hole where the palm tree once used to stand.
The story tells nothing much, but how silently (and almost creepily) efficient our government is. The way we don’t celebrate things we’ve come to expect, I don’t think we recognize anymore the extraordinary efficiency of our country.
Ah well, happy birthday Singapore! Thank you for 2-minute Sing passes vs. 4-5-hour waits for a Permesso di Soggiorno in Italy 😉
